Shadow of Sounds

2011 - 2012

Interactive Real-Time Sound Processing & Kinetic Light Installation
Dimensions: Variable (22’ x 17’ x 12’ in recent exhibition)
Materials: 30 bags of rock salt, 3 incandescent bulbs with servo motors, piezo sensors, 7 piezo contact mics, 2 AKG contact mics, 11 wooden platforms (4' x 4'), 5 loudspeakers, microcontrollers, AC dimmer circuits, MOTU, Mac Mini

Shadow of Sounds explores the resonance between memory and presence through sonic and tactile experience. Footsteps on rock salt are captured and processed in real time, blending live and delayed sounds—echoes of previous visitors that linger like memories in the space.

Motorized lights respond to the audience’s movements, casting shifting shadows that animate the environment. As participants walk, listen, and observe, they shape their own cinematic experience—one that exists between sound, light, memory, and embodied interaction.
